One of the most common questions I hear before a psychic reading is, “What questions should I ask?” The truth about asking Spirit for guidance is that you do not need to find the perfect question before your session.
“What questions should I ask?”
People often spend a lot of time trying to prepare the “perfect” question. They wonder if they should ask something specific, if there are certain things they are allowed to ask Spirit, or if they might somehow ask the wrong thing and receive the wrong answer.
After conducting hundreds of psychic readings over the years, I want you to know something important:
There is no wrong question.
There is nothing you can ask Spirit that will make your guides, your loved ones, or the divine energy supporting you judge you, turn away from you, or say, “You shouldn’t be asking that.”
Spirit does not see you through a lens of judgment. Spirit sees the fullness of who you are—your fears, your hopes, your grief, your desires, your uncertainty, your dreams, and every part of your human experience.
Spirit wants all of you.
So instead of worrying about finding the “right” question, the better question is:
What is truly alive in my heart right now?
I have seen this concern come up again and again with clients. People will walk into a reading feeling nervous because they don’t know if their question is appropriate or if they are supposed to ask about something specific.
But your relationship with Spirit is not a test that you can fail.
You do not have to show up with the perfect words. You do not have to have the perfect intention. You do not have to organize your thoughts in a way that feels acceptable.
Spirit already knows what is in your heart.
The most meaningful readings often begin when someone allows themselves to be honest about what they are truly experiencing.
Sometimes that means asking about something joyful. Sometimes that means asking about something painful. Sometimes that means bringing forward a question you have been afraid to say out loud.
All of those things belong.
Over the years, I have noticed that the readings that create the deepest transformations are often connected to questions that come from a place of openness and curiosity.
Not judgment.
Not fear.
Not trying to force a specific outcome.
There is a big difference between asking:
“Is this going to happen exactly the way I want it to?”
and asking:
“What do I need to understand about this situation?”
or:
“What guidance does Spirit have for me right now?”
A question rooted in curiosity creates space for Spirit to communicate in ways that may surprise you.
That does not mean you cannot ask specific questions. You absolutely can.
I have done many readings where someone comes with a very specific question and receives a very clear, direct answer.
Yes or no questions can absolutely provide meaningful insight.
But what I have found is that the more open you are to receiving whatever comes through—whether it confirms what you expected or reveals something completely unexpected—the more space there is for a deeper connection.
If someone sat across from me before a reading and asked, “What is the best question I can ask Spirit today?” my answer would be simple:
Ask what is genuinely on your heart.
Not what you think you should ask.
Not what sounds spiritual enough.
Not what you think will produce the answer you want.
Ask what is alive within you.
Because we can try to avoid the things that are really asking for our attention. We can come into a reading saying, “I want to talk about my career,” or “I want to know about my relationship,” but underneath that there may be grief, fear, uncertainty, or a deeper longing that is really asking to be seen.
And Spirit already knows that.
The thing that is the loudest in your energy, your heart, and your field is often the thing that wants your attention the most.
So why not start there?
Sometimes people book a reading because they think they are going to ask about one thing, and then right before the reading something shifts. Something happens. Something becomes incredibly present for them.
That is not random.
That is often the most important place to begin.
One thing I always want people to understand is that Spirit does not always communicate in one predictable way.
Sometimes you will ask a question and receive a simple, direct answer.
Sometimes you will receive a layered answer that opens a door into something much deeper.
Both are valuable.
Life itself is multi-layered. Our experiences, our relationships, our healing, and our purpose are not always simple or one-dimensional.
Sometimes the question we think we are asking has another layer underneath it.
For example, a question about a relationship may also involve healing, self-worth, boundaries, or learning to trust yourself.
A question about career may also connect to purpose, confidence, or following your intuition.
That does not mean your original question was wrong.
It means Spirit has a way of seeing the bigger picture.
The key is not trying to control how the answer arrives.
The key is being willing to receive it.
After conducting hundreds of readings, one thing has become incredibly clear to me:
We are all asking many of the same questions.
Again and again, I hear people asking about:
And what is beautiful about that is it reminds me how connected we truly are.
So often, we feel like we are the only ones questioning ourselves. We think everyone else has it figured out, everyone else feels confident, and everyone else knows exactly where they are going.
But sitting with people through hundreds of readings has shown me something different.
We all have doubts.
We all have fears.
We all experience moments where we wonder if we are doing the right thing.
The questions people bring into readings reveal something deeply human:
We are not as separate as we sometimes believe.
If you are preparing for a psychic reading and you feel unsure what to ask, remember this:
You do not need to come with the perfect question.
You do not need to have everything figured out.
You do not need to know exactly what Spirit will say.
Simply come as you are.
Ask what is on your heart.
Ask what you are curious about.
Ask what you need guidance around.
And most importantly, allow yourself to be open to receiving an answer that may be exactly what you needed—even if it is different from what you expected.
After your session, you may also find it helpful to learn how to interpret the results of a psychic reading so you can continue reflecting on the messages Spirit shared with you.
Spirit is not here to judge you.
Spirit is here to guide you, support you, and remind you of the wisdom that has always existed within you.
